If you enjoy all that the PS2, (Sony Playstation 2) has to offer then there is no doubt that you will be hanging off of your seat by using the product we are talking about today. Yes, it's the PS2 Wireless Network Adapter! Be warned, when you take your gaming to this level you will become lazy, your partner may hate you, and you will probably suffer insomnia. The addictiveness of online gameplay is staggering. I have friends that work 6am - 2pm and are still on their PS2 at 2am! If you're prepared to suffer all this and join the world of internet gaming then read on as we look at the PS2 Wireless Network Adapter, what it can do for you, other things you will need, and of course it's price tag.

Playing games online is not a new concept, we have been doing it our PC's for a long time. But Using consoles to game with people across the world has only been available for a few short years. The're are now thousands of Playstation gamers online at anyone time you can interact and compete with. The reason for this mega change is down to the gods above that gave us broadband. In the past, the types of games that were played online were low res, simple games that didn't require much in the way of information. With a 56k Dial-up or less, you are limited to the amount of graphics and video you can stream. This therefore made our consoles useless for the online world as they are equipped with state or the art graphics and video that our internet connection simply couldn't handle. Well, now that's all changed and with the PS2 Wireless Network Adapter you too can be part of it.

You don't need much to become a part of this community. Of course, you need your netork adapter. You will also need an 8MB memory card, A broadband internet connection, (you can use this with dial up but you will be extremely limited), You will also need a start up disc to get your gear working.

Let's take a quick look at the PS2 Wireless Network Adapter itself. It's a fairly straightfoward looking box, and all you have to do is plug it into your playstation. Simply line up the adapters connectors to the ones on the slot marked expansion bay at the back or your playstation and plug in. That's it. Price varies depending on where you shop and if you buy one with the startup disc included. As usual, the internet will be cheaper than your high street store, and you should expect to pay anywhere from $30-$60, so shop around.

As already mentioned, if you don't already have one, you will need an 8MB playstation 2 compatible memory card. This is because your console needs to store and retrieve the data it uses to connect to the internet. In order for this to work efficiently you will need at least 137KB of free space on your card.

Now you need an internet connection, (Broadband is strongly recommended here). The PS2 Wireless Network Adapter is known to be compatible with most ISP's, (Internet Service Providers) so you should have no problem here but it may be wise to check on this before parting with your hard-earned cash.

This moves us nicely on to your Start-up or installation disc. It is important to note here that not all PS2 Wireless Network Adapters come with this disc, so check with the vendor before hand as you may have to buy this seperately. It may work out cheaper to buy a slightly more expensive adapter that comes with the installation disc. But, having said this, I have seen these disc as cheap as $2.99 on eBay. Now, Once you have connected your adapter, turn on your PS2 and run the setup program from the main menu on the disc. You will be taken through a step by step process that will enable your Playstation to gather all the information it needs and connect to the internet. The program will then save this information on your memory card for future use.

Once you have completed this process you are ready to become a fully fledged addict. Compete with people from around the world and even enter competitions for some big prizes. Congratulations, and welcome to the nocturnal world.
